The road to Kentucky Derby 2017 makes a stop in New Orleans this week for the Grade III Lecomte Stakes at Fair Grounds on Saturday, January 21.
The two turn Derby prep attracted a dozen sophomores and Untrapped is the 9-2 morning line favorite for Steve Asmussen, who also saddles Springboard Mile runner-up Totality and Tip Tap Tapizar.
Running Mate looks like the one to catch for trainer Larry Jones and Guest Suite looms a dangerous contender for Neil Howard.
Tom Amoss saddled Mo Tom to win the 2016 Lecomte and he is represented by Shareholder Value this time.
Dallas Stewart did not like the outside draw for Saint’s Fan and he is expected to scratch.
NY-bred stakes winner Pat On the Back, maiden Arklow, and Phat Man, Marco Mischief, and Mark Casse’s Takeoff round out the Lecomte field.
