HRN Video Race of the Week: Winter Challenge with California Chrome

California Chrome’s lucrative career on the racetrack is winding down. The all-time North American money leader is expected to make his final career start in the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, January 28, 2017. He tunes up for the Pegasus in the Winter Challenge at his Los Alamitos home base later today, and it looks like a walk in the park.

HRN Video Race of the Week: G1 Matriarch with Miss Temple City

Sunday’s Grade I Matriarch at Del Mar drew a full field of 12 but it might be a one horse affair if Miss Temple City brings her “A” game. The Graham Motion trainee beat Grade I males twice this year at one mile on turf but both of those races were at Keeneland and she must prove that she can produce a race of that quality away from that venue.

Time and Motion is a 3-year-old filly on the rise for trainer Jimmy Toner. She is fresh and won the Grade I QE II Challenge Cup at Keeneland on Oct 15 but a flat mile might be a bit sharp for her.

Trainer Chad Brown finished 1-2 in yesterday’s Grade I Hollywood Derby and is back for more with a trio of entrants in this event. Roca Rojo might be his best chance and the 5-for-6 filly must deal with firm turf after walking away with an easy win in the Grade III Athenia on soft ground at Belmont Oct 23.
