Travers Stakes 2016 video analysis featuring Exaggerator and American Freedom

The 2016 Travers from Saratoga is sure to be a classic renewal with a full gate of fourteen, minus the late defection of Majesto.

Santa Anita Derby, Preakness, and Haksell hero Exaggerator is the one to beat but all three of those aforementioned grade one victories were contested on a wet track and he got plenty of pace help each time.

Haskell runner-up American Freedom is back for more and a bit less pace pressure on a fast track might help him turn the tables on Exaggerator.

Belmont Stakes 1-2 finishers Creator and Destin are also back in action in a deep, competitive edition of the mid-summer Derby.

Jim Dandy and Haskell video analysis featuring Nyquist, American Freedom, and Mohaymen

The Grade 2 Jim Dandy at Saratoga Race Course on July 30 and the Grade 1 Haskell at Monmouth Park on July 31 are the marquee races for sophomores this weekend.

The Jim Dandy pits 1-2 Belmont Stakes finishers Creator and Destin against Mohaymen, who is making his first start since finishing 4th in the Kentucky Derby.

Sunday’s Haskell is a continuation of a nice rivalry between Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist and Preakness winner Exaggerator. 8-time Haskell winning trainer Bob Baffert enters American Freedom and Derby show finisher Gun Runner rounds out the serious contenders.

Video Race of the Week: Saratoga’s Grade 1 Diana with Miss Temple City

Del Mar started last week and now summer is in full swing after the opening of Saratoga Race Course on Friday. The first Grade I of the meet is the Diana Stakes for fillies and mares traveling a mile and an eighth on the turf course.

Morning line favorite Miss Temple City returns from Royal Ascot and takes on four entrants from the Chad Brown barn.

Whitney 2015 Video Analysis Featuring Honor Code

The 2015 Grade 1 Whitney from Saratoga Race Course is a stellar edition featuring seven Grade 1 winners including morning line favorite Honor Code.

Honor Code was sensational in the G1 Met Mile but his last three wins were around one turn and he will try to sustain his devastating late kick over a route of ground.

The other six Grade 1 winners in the lineup are 2014 G1 Belmont Stakes hero Tonalist, G1 Stephen Foster winner Noble Bird, defending Whitney champ Moreno, last year’s G1 Travers winner V. E. Day, Lea, and Wicked Strong.

Woodward Stakes 2014 Video: Will Moreno go all the way again?

Saturday’s 12-race Woodward Day program from Saratoga Race Course includes four graded events.

The first graded event is the Grade 2 Bernard Baruch (5th race). Horse of the Year Wise Dan returns to action as your 3-5 morning line favorite. A strong performance will have him on course for yet another shot at the BC Mile.

The Grade 2 Prioress (8th race) features some runners from the G1 Test but I am looking for fresh face Princess Violet to get the job done.

Romping Belmont Sprint hero Clearly Now loves seven panels and is fresh and ready to roll in the Grade 1 Forego (10th race).

Moreno seeks back-to-back grade one wire jobs at the Spa in the Woodward (11th race). Itsmyluckyday adds blinkers and tries to turn the tables on Moreno. Zivo goes after his seventh straight win for Chad Brown and he easily beat Moreno in the Suburban at Belmont Park in July.
