Kentucky Derby 2013 contenders video featuring Normandy Invasion & Mylute

This is our fourth in a five part video series devoted to Kentucky Derby 2013 contenders. All of the major prep races have been run and final workouts and the post position draw are all that remain.

Each video will consist of four contenders. In this video, we discuss Arkansas Derby runner-up Frac Daddy, Louisiana Derby runner-up Mylute, Wood Memorial runner-up Normandy Invasion, and Blue Grass runner-up Palace Malice.

Each video will consist of four contenders. In this first video, we discuss Santa Anita Derby hero Goldencents, Blue Grass Stakes winner Java’s War, Fountain of Youth and Florida Derby winner Orb, and Tampa Bay Derby and Wood Memorial hero Verrazano.

Belmont Stakes 2012 Bloodlines: Unstoppable U

Which horse has the best pedigree to handle twelve furlongs in the final leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday, June 9 at Belmont Park? My Belmont Stakes alphabetical list continues with Unstoppable U.

Unstoppable U’s sire Exchange Rate (by Danzig) won 6 of 15 races from 1999-2001 including the Risen Star Stakes and G2 Tom Fool. The Three Chimneys Stallion is responsible for 31 stakes winners including Ermine and Xchanger.

Exchange Rate’s sire Danzig (by Northern Dancer) won all three career starts in New York. The influential stallion died in 2006 at age 29. He sired such prominent runners as Chief’s Crown (3rd ’85 Belmont Stakes), Stephan’s Odyssey (’85 Belmont Stakes runner-up), Danzig Connection (’86 Belmont Stakes winner), ’92 Preakness hero Pine Bluff, and Breeders’ Cup Mile winners Lure and War Chant.

Belmont Stakes 2012 Bloodlines: Atigun

Atigun’s sire Istan raced 21 times from 2004-07. He captured a pair of flat mile grade three events (Ack Ack, TP Fall Championship) in ’07 and banked more than $461k in his career. He is also the sire of G3 Lecomte hero Mr. Bowling.

Istan’s sire Gone West (by Mr. Prospector) was on the Triple Crown trail in 1987, making waves in the Hutcheson (2nd), Fountain of Youth (3rd), Gotham (1st),  Wood Memorial (2nd), Withers (1st), and Peter Pan (2nd), before finishing 6th in the Belmont Stakes. The late Gone West sired his 100th stakes winner earlier this year.
